Early in my metalsmithing journey, I began curating a treasury of rare gemstones for future designs. When I discovered Holley Blue Agate, its singular beauty made it an essential addition to my collection.
Named for the quiet hour after sunset, the TwiLight Collection features the highly sought-after Holley Blue Agate. The Collection emerged from the allure of this exquisite gem, which mirrors the tranquil, indigo skies immediately following sunset. That fleeting moment when the horizon shifts from radiant warmth to a hushed, cool violet.
The soft light and the calmness of twilight symbolizes a subtle time change between one phase and the beginning of another. I have always found these earth born shades of purple to be shrouded in mystery, perfectly capturing the delicate balance between light and shadow.
The TwiLight Collection features one of the most storied and sought-after treasures in the American West. The rare Holley Blue Agate was sourced from a single, now-closed location in Oregon. This gemstone takes its distinguished name from its ancestral discovery site, Holley Mountain. With its mining history that ended in 1997, this exclusive variety of chalcedony is a true collector's treasure. Holley Blue Agate is now largely depleted and the land is privately owned by a timber company. For these reasons Holley Blue is getting very rare and valuable.
Beyond its rarity, Holley Blue is often referred to as a "Stone of Serenity," believed to instill a profound sense of composure in the wearer. To complement these Oregon treasures, I have also integrated Amethyst and Indonesian Purple Chalcedony into the TwiLight collection, where each piece is a study on tonal depth.
Handcrafted in .925 sterling and .999 fine silver, some pieces are polished, while most pieces feature an inky patina that brings out bold textures and creates a striking contrast with the gemstones.
